Poverty is a major issue in the world today from coast to coast and all over the world there are millions of people who suffer from poverty. Though there have been efforts to try and imporve the situation by many people. More than 300 million people in China have no access to safe and clean drinking water, most of them in comparatively poor rural areas. The US has give 25 million dollers to help improve water and sanitation access in Western China. "The Western Provinces Rural Water Supply, Sanitation and Hygiene Promotion Project is intended to increase the access of poor communities to sustainable and equitable water supplies, sanitation and hygiene promotion services by adopting an integrated and participatory approach, which can be replicated in other provinces, according to a WB statement. The total investment costs are US $75.36 million, with US $25 million of loans from the WB, US $25 million of grants from the United Kingdom Department for International Development (DFID) and US $25.36 million from the participating provinces of Shaanxi and Sichuan."More then 60 percent of the investment will go to the imporvment access of safe drinking water through piped water supply systems, rain collection systems and wells. All schools within the project areas of Shaanxi Province and selected schools in Sichuan Province will be supplied with safe water. Over more then a quarter of the investment will go to improving sanitation by building and upgrading hous

In china however you are faced with poverty and in many different ways aswell. If your a woman you may be poor because you born that way and you may stay poor because of your sex. Women have a lesser of a chance of getting out of poveritve situations then men in China would. For a girl being born into a poor rural family she faces malnutrition and lack of health care for her first five years. She may attend school but the classes are most likely not to be taught in her ethnic language and she would remain illiterate. finding work for a women is hard any chances she may have would be handed off to a man at any time and if she did get a job she would be paid less for it. Also the people in china, as well as most people every where, are more likly to be fibbed to by their government. When you go to look up information on the poverty situation in china you get a varity of numbers. the numbers change from site to site, which may just be cause by people not really know what they're talking about, the government sites show drastic changes where as others sites show change but not that big of a change.
